The challenge
Under pressure to reduce costs and become environmentally responsible, more and more multi-national businesses are adopting video conferencing and telepresence. They can be used to help dispersed global teams collaborate closely without leaving their offices and reduce the need for international travel. Yet for video conferencing and telepresence to work effectively, the quality of the video transmission must be nothing less than excellent. Excellence therefore, is precisely what Media Network Services (MNS) was looking for. The company operates a global network specifically for high definition, international video conferencing. It aims to offer its customers a cost effective service that delivers excellent reliability, guaranteed bandwidth and low latency – at all times.
MNS constantly monitors the performance of its global network and was concerned about the quality of service that was being provided by one of its network partners. Given the exceptional performance that the company needed for High Definition video, it decided to investigate other options.
The solution
MNS decided to subscribe to Telstra International’s VPLS. This highly flexible, any-to-any service is delivered with familiar Ethernet termination, using Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) technology in the Telstra backbone. Initially, MNS opted for network connectivity between London, Singapore and San José. However, it then expanded its VPLS further in the Asia Pacific region, as customer demand increased.
