A pan-Asia research initiative from Telstra Global examining the challenges and strategies for success in Asia

As ambitious companies eye Asia, even with the promise of the Asian Century, expansion into foreign territory is never easy.

Over the last few decades, generations of workers have been steadily preparing for an Asian Century. Senior decision-makers are looking for success stories and to better understand common challenges associated with expanding to, in and from Asia. At Telstra Global, we know there is a need for peer-based research, so we commissioned Connecting Countries, a pan-Asia executive study designed to showcase insights and strategies for success from executives based in Asia.

Whether the region is their natural or adopted home there is a growing talent pool deployed in Asia that are building better trade links throughout the world. It’s rare to hear from these executives as a collective – but as more multinational organisations look to expand into Asia their feedback is needed now, more than ever.

Telstra Global commissioned Connecting Countries to close this information gap by examining the experiences of senior decision makers acros s multiple markets in an invitation only research program. More than 4,100 executives with international experience took part in Telstra Global’s research efforts.

For every completed questionnaire Telstra Global donated USD$2 to a not-for-profit operating in Asia (Red Cross/ Red Crescent, WWF or UNICEF) and in early 2014 we donated USD$10,000 between these organisations as a thank you to the respondents that shared their insights in the Connecting Countries research initiative.

ABOUT TELSTRA GLOBAL

Telstra Global is a leading global supplier of managed network services and international data, voice and satellite services, with one of the most technologically advanced IP Backbone networks in the world.

Our business is all about the technology which helps people connect, but we know ICT is just a part of the infrastructure that binds businesses together. Strategy, culture and skills are also key.

Telecommunications companies no longer just support voice and data, but have taken on a critical role as a complete connectivity partner, where their regional knowledge and on the ground expertise can mean the difference between success and failure.

Operating in one country to the next can be incredibly different from language to the law. Our role is to deliver a consistent, predictable and simple solution that has the same flavour no matter which country the customer operates in.

This research looks at how to effectively connect countries and continents, to identify the plans, processes and people needed to advance into Asia.
