Customers to benefit from easier migration and resilience through hybrid networks.
Telstra International, a leading global provider of managed networked solutions, has today announced enhancements to its range of intercontinental Ethernet Services, delivering an extensive improvement to its private and public network capabilities, and further expansion of its international coverage.
Tejaswini Tilak, Head of Product Management - Asia, Telstra International said these enhancements are designed to facilitate smoother internet accessibility, seamless communication between and within customer networks, and afford greater international reach and connection for international organisations.
The upgraded and expanded services mean:
- Telstra International customers have the capability to run hybrid networks, using an Ethernet based VPLS (Virtual Private LAN Service) and IP VPN (IP Virtual Private Network) concurrently on the same network, enabling an easier migration process to Ethernet.
- Existing VPLS customers can access the public internet through their network, offering improved return on investment from network spend, and the operational ease of working with a single provider.
- Customers will benefit from EPL (Ethernet Private Line) point to multipoint topology, providing a network with a common central data site, combined with a greater service speed availability of 10Gbps.
- All of these improvements are further bolstered by Telstra International’s extension of its VPLS and EVPL (Ethernet Virtual Private Line) coverage in the US and China, as well as augmented on-net EPL (Ethernet Private Line) coverage in Indonesia and Malaysia.
“Despite the inherent benefits of Ethernet WAN services, the market is still in its infancy. Only with greater ease of inter-connection and inter-operability will the market be able to meet multi-national corporations’ demand for international connectivity,” Tilak said.
“By enhancing our portfolio of services to enable easier migration to Ethernet, improving its scale and simplifying the process, our industry-leading service will truly offer the value that Ethernet has the potential to offer over the traditional WAN,” Tilak said.
The advancements in the Ethernet WAN service further build on Telstra International’s existing intercontinental coverage, which covers 15 countries worldwide. The entire portfolio achieved MEF 9 and MEF 14 certifications from the MEF (Metro Ethernet Forum) in 2010, further assuring customers that high industry performance standards are upheld.
MEF14 certification means that a Carrier Ethernet service adheres to premium performance characteristics including throughput, jitter, bandwidth profile and traffic management, while MEF 9 certification verifies that an Ethernet service performs to the functional specifications and attributes as defined by the MEF. These tests ensure that Carrier Ethernet services will perform across multiple platforms and across multiple vendor solutions that are also MEF certified.
