Telstra honoured by visit of Vice President Xi

As the largest Australian company employer in Greater China, Telstra has a long-term relationship with the Chinese Government and industry built over the past 20 years. The company was therefore honoured to host the Vice President and his Ministerial colleagues during their official visit to Australia.

David was joined at the meeting by Telstra International Group Managing Director, Tarek Robbiati, who is responsible for the management of Telstra’s multiple business interests and assets internationally, including across the Asia Pacific region.

“Our business investments in China and the broader Asia Pacific region will play an increasingly important part of our company’s future,” comments David.

Benefits of technology in health care

At the meeting Telstra shared its experience in developing applications, such as the Telstra High Definition Telehealth Solution, which delivers real-time connectivity over high-speed wireless and fixed networks.

“This telemedicine solution, delivered over our Telstra network, is an example of how technology can contribute to people’s health care needs while also enhancing productivity and saving costs,” he explains.

Telstra was also pleased to host Shi Lirong, President of Telstra’s technology associate ZTE, at the meeting with Vice President Xi.

ZTE collaboration

Earlier this month Telstra and the Chinese company ZTE built on the commercial relationship between the two companies and signed an agreement to build the largest national LTE network in the region in Hong Kong.

David adds: “We are very pleased to work with ZTE, in Hong Kong and Australia, and we look forward to continuing to leverage what we have learned in our markets and develop our China-based businesses in mutually constructive ways."

Long history with China

Telstra's relationship with the Chinese Government commenced in 1989 when Telstra signed a MoU for cooperation and assistance with the Chinese Academy of Space Technology.

With interests in Hong Kong's largest mobile operator, CSL New World, China's largest real estate internet site SouFun and seven other online content businesses, Telstra is the largest Australian company employer in greater China.
